Increase of Muslim Population in Europe

Chancellor Angela Merkel said that Germans have failed to grasp how Muslim immigration has transformed their country and will have to come to terms with more mosques than churches throughout the countryside, according to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung daily.

"Our country is going to carry on changing, and integration is also a task for the society taking up the task of dealing with immigrants,” Ms. Merkel told the daily newspaper. “For years we've been deceiving ourselves about this. Mosques, for example, are going to be a more prominent part of our cities than they were before.”

Germany, with a population of 4-5 million Muslims, has been divided in recent weeks by a debate over remarks by the Bundesbank's Thilo Sarrazin, who argued Turkish and Arab immigrants were failing to integrate and were swamping Germany with a higher birth rate.

The Chancellor’s remarks represent the first official acknowledgement that Germany , like other European countries, is destined to become a stronghold of Islam. She has admitted that the country will soon become a stronghold.

In France , 30% of children age 20 years and below are Muslims. The ratio in Paris and Marseille has soared to 45%. In southern France , there are more mosques than churches.

The situation within the United Kingdom is not much different. In the last 30 years, the Muslim population there has climbed from 82,000 to 2.5 million. Presently, there are over 1000 mosques throughout Great Britain - - many of which were converted from churches.

In Belgium , 50% of the newborns are Muslims and reportedly its Islamic population hovers around 25%. A similar statistic holds true for The Netherlands.

It’s the same story in Russia where one in five inhabitants is a Muslim.

Muammar Gaddafi recently stated that “There are signs that Allah will grant victory to Islam in Europe without sword, without gun, without conquest. We don’t need terrorists; we don’t need homicide bombers. The 50 plus million Muslims (in Europe ) will turn it into the Muslim Continent within a few decades.”

Every year, in a central London hotel, a very grand lunch is thrown by the Conservative Friends of Israel. It is often addressed by the Conservative leader of the day. Many members of the shadow cabinet make it their business to be there along with a very large number of Tory peers and prospective candidates, while the Conservative MPs present amount to something close to a majority of the parliamentary party. It is a formidable turnout.

This year’s event took place in June, with the main speech by Tory leader David Cameron and shadow foreign secretary William Hague in attendance. The dominant event of the previous twelve months had been the Israeli invasion of Gaza at the start of the year. So I examined Cameron’s speech with curiosity to see how he would handle that recent catastrophe.

I was shocked to see that Cameron made no reference at all to the invasion of Gaza, the massive destruction it caused, or the 1,3701 deaths that had resulted. Indeed, Cameron went out of his way to praise Israel because it “strives to protect innocent life”

I found it impossible to reconcile the remarks made by the

young Conservative leader with the numerous reports of human rights abuses in Gaza. Afterwards I said as much to some Tory MPs. They looked at me as if I was distressingly naive, drawing my attention to the very large number of Tory donors in the audience.

But it cannot be forgotten that so many people died in Gaza at the start of this year. To allow this terrible subject to pass by without comment suggested a failure of common humanity and decency on the part of a man most people regard as the next prime minister.

To praise Israel at the same time for protecting human life showed not merely a fundamental failure of respect for the truth but also it gives the perception, rightly or wrongly, of support for the wretched events which took place in Gaza. That is not to condone or excuse the abhorrent actions of Hamas, but to overlook Israel’s culpability is undoubtedly partisan.

It is impossible to imagine any British political leader showing such equanimity and tolerance if British troops had committed even a fraction of the human rights abuses and war crimes of which Israel has been accused. So that weekend, in my weekly Daily Mail political column, I criticized Cameron’s speech to the CFI, drawing attention to his failure to mention Gaza and his speaking of Israeli respect for the sanctity of human life. Soon I received a letter from Stuart Polak, the longstanding CFI director: “Peter, the snapshot of our lunch concentrating on the businessmen and David’s alleged comments was really unhelpful.” The CFI political director, Robert Halfon, wrote saying that my letter was ‘astonishing’ and accusing me of making a ‘moral equivalence’ between Israel and Iran.

I wrote back to them citing a number of reports by international organizations such as Amnesty International highlighting breaches of codes by the Israeli army. I resolved then to ask the question: what led David Cameron to behave in the way he did at the CFI lunch at the Dorchester Hotel last June? What are the rules of British political behaviour which cause the Tory Party leader and his mass of MPs and parliamentary candidates to flock to the Friends of Israel lunch in the year of the Gaza invasion? And what are the rules of media discourse that ensure that such an event passes without notice?

On a personal note I should say that I have known both Stuart Polak and Robert Halfon for many years and always found them fair-minded and straightforward to deal with. Indeed in the summer of 2007 I went on a CFI trip to Israel led by Stuart Polak.

No pressure was put on me, at the time or later, to write anything in favour of Israel. The trip, which was paid for by the CFI, certainly enabled me to understand much better the Israeli point of view. But we were presented with a very full spectrum of Israeli intellectual and political life, ranging from disturbingly far right pro-settler MPs to liberal intellectuals consumed with doubt about the morality of the Zionist state. The trip was also balanced to a certain extent by a meeting with a leading Palestinian businessman and with the British consul in East Jerusalem.

Nevertheless, the job of a political journalist is to try and explain how politics works. Ten years ago I exposed, in an article for The Spectator headlined “The man who owns the Tory Party”, the fact that the controversial offshore financier Michael Ashcroft was personally responsible for the financial 

survival of William Hague’s Conservatives. I asked how legitimate Michael Ashcroft’s contribution was, how much he spent, and did my best to investigate how he used his influence.

950 Dollars (£636) For The Death Of A 10-year-old Boy, 105 Afghan deaths compensated by UK

The UK has paid compensation for the deaths of more than 100 Afghan civilians last year, Ministry of Defence figures have revealed.

Details of claims and payouts made for people killed and injured in error by British forces emerged in response to a Freedom of Information request made by Channel 4 News as part of an investigation into the issue.

Thousands of pounds were paid to relatives of at least 105 Afghan civilians last year - three times as many as 2008 when there were 33 such payouts.

Compensation included 950 dollars (£636) for the death of a 10-year-old boy in the Nad-e-Ali area of Helmand in December and 6,800 dollars (£4,549) after four children were killed.

The figures also set out compensation for damage to property such as livestock and mobile phones.

Details of the incidents and the exact number of people who died are not always provided in the documents, which in a number of cases refer to "fatalities".

According to the MoD - which accused the Taliban of attacking from densely populated areas to effectively use human shields - payments do not mean UK forces are legally liable.

A spokesman for the MoD said: "Any incident involving civilian casualties is a matter of deep regret, particularly when the actions of international forces may be at fault. We have strict procedures intended to minimise the risk of civilian casualties and to investigate any that occur.

"In contrast, the insurgents often target civilians with their indiscriminate attacks and operate from densely populated areas in order to deliberately draw civilians into the battle.

"Payments are made to recognise the circumstances of each incident and to satisfy cultural and operational circumstances; they do not necessarily mean UK forces are legally liable."

Artificial brain ten years away from reality

LONDON: Scientists are claiming that a functional, artificial brain is only a decade away. This prediction correlates with the above chart, according to which our current computing capabilities limit us to simulated lizard brains.

Using an BM Blue Gene machine with 10,000 processors, the folks at the Blue Brain Project are creating simulations to figure out exactly how our brains work. So far they’ve got a “model of ‘tens of thousands’ of neurons” and lofty goals:

Ultimately, the aim would be to extract that representation and project it so that researchers could see directly how a brain perceives the world.

But as well as advancing neuroscience and philosophy, the Blue Brain project has other practical applications.

For example, by pooling all the world’s neuroscience data on animals - to create a “Noah’s Ark”, researchers may be able to build animal models.

“We cannot keep on doing animal experiments forever,” said Professor Markram.

It may also give researchers new insights into diseases of the brain.

“There are two billion people on the planet affected by mental disorder,” he told the audience.

The project may give insights into new treatments, he said.

London: Oxford scientists have created a transparent form of aluminium by bombarding the metal with the world's most powerful soft X-ray laser.

'Transparent aluminium' previously existed only in science fiction, featuring in the movie Star Trek IV, but the real material is an exotic new state of matter with implications for planetary science and nuclear fusion.

In this week's 'Nature Physics', an international team led by Oxford University scientists report that a short pulse from the Hamburg-based FLASH laser 'knocked out' a core electron from every aluminium atom in a sample without disrupting the metal's crystalline structure.

This turned the aluminium nearly invisible to extreme ultraviolet radiation.

"What we have created is a completely new state of matter nobody has seen before," said Professor Justin Wark of Oxford University's Department of Physics, one of the authors of the paper.

"Transparent aluminium is just the start. The physical properties of the matter we are creating are relevant to the conditions inside large planets, and we also hope that by studying it we can gain a greater understanding of what is going on during the creation of 'miniature stars' created by high-power laser implosions, which may one day allow the power of nuclear fusion to be harnessed here on Earth."

The discovery was made possible with the development of a new source of radiation that is ten billion times brighter than any synchrotron in the world (such as the UK's Diamond Light Source).

The FLASH laser produces extremely brief pulses of soft X-ray light, each of which is more powerful than the output of a power plant that provides electricity to a whole city.

The Oxford team, along with their international colleagues, focused all this power down into a spot with a diameter less than a twentieth of the width of a human hair.

At such high intensities the aluminium turned transparent.

Whilst the invisible effect lasted for only an extremely brief period -– an estimated 40 emtoseconds – it demonstrates that such an exotic state of matter can be created using very high power X-ray sources.

Professor Wark added: "What is particularly remarkable about our experiment is that we have turned ordinary aluminium into this exotic new material in a single step by using this very powerful laser. For a brief period the sample looks and behaves in every way like a new form of matter.

"In certain respects, the way it reacts is as though we had changed every aluminium atom into silicon: it's almost as surprising as finding that you can turn lead into gold with light!'

The researchers believe that the new approach is an ideal way to create and study such exotic states of matter and will lead to further work relevant to areas as diverse as planetary science, astrophysics and nuclear fusion power.

Great British Duck Race 2009 set Guinness World Record

Yesterday found our favouriteduck fan Misty yet again at Molsely Lock, Hampton Court armed with cameras set to shiny in order to capture the third Great British Duck Race for photographic posterity.

Created by Mike Scott in 2006, the Duck Race raises money for charities by asking people to sponsor small rubber ducks that are let loose on the river Thames. The duck fleet floats full pelt (or as fast as the tide will carry them) towards the finish line where the luckiest ducks are gathered and their numbers recorded so their fortunate sponsors can win fabulous prizes.

The crowds were out in force to cheer on the brave little ducks and luckily the weather was good for humans instead of ducks and no-one got soaked to the skin like last time. The race was started by DJ Norman Jay (pictured), fresh from Notting Hill Carnival, who kept the fans happy by playing his rare groove sounds whilst awaiting the release of the ducks.
This year's lead charity is the NSPCC, but over the years the Great British Duck Race has also raised money for Cancer Research UK, Cats Protection, MacMillan Cancer Support, Diabetes UK, BEN, Shelter, FSID, BBC Children in Need, and Dogs Trust to name but a few. Now that the duck race has gained all necessary approvals from the Environment Agencies and local authorities it is a registered organisation in it's own right, so looks set to carry on the good duck work for many years to come. Fittingly, the Duck Race even has Olympic aspirations, hoping to race a million ducks in 2012, beating this year's 175,000.

World Largest Ground based Lunar Image World Record

Why The Bankers love the left

The fact that "Secret World Government" is generally considered "right wing" and "anti Semitic" is revealing:

1) It shows the extent society already has been brainwashed and subverted by the Rothschild conspiracy.

2) It reveals how the bogus issue of antisemitism is used to divert attention from a genuine mortal threat to humanity.

3) It explains the true meaning of "right wing crackpot" and why the Left is an instrument of the bankers.

EXAMPLE: THE US CIVIL WAR

Compare the treatment of this war in "The Secret World Government" with "A Peoples History of the United States"by Howard Zinn, a leftist, who cannot utter the word "Rothschild."

Cherep-Spiridovitch cites an interview with the German chancellor Otto von Bismarck in 1876. Bismarck explained that the Rothschilds who controlled Europe were afraid the United States would become independent of them if it remained one nation.

"They foresaw tremendous booty if they could substitute two feeble democracies indebted to the Jewish financiers for the vigorous republic confident and self providing. Therefore they started their emissaries in order to exploit the question of slavery and thus to dig an abyss between the two parts of the republic." (180)

The Illuminati used the Masonic "Knights of the Golden Circle" formed in 1854 by George W. L. Bickley, to spread racial tension by making slavery an issue. Members included Lincoln assassin John Wilkes Booth, Confederate President Jefferson Davis, and his adviser Judah P. Benjamin, the Confederate Secretary of War, a Rothschild agent.

The plan was to divide the United Sates between England controlled by Lionel Rothschild and France, controlled by James Rothschild. France was to take over the whole South while Canada annexed the defeated North. In 1863 France and Spain invaded Mexico with 30,000 troops. The embattled Confederate States actually offered Louisiana and Texas to France in exchange for assistance.

Britain and France were ready to snuff out the young republic but were deterred by Russia, the only European power not in the Rothschild's thrall. Czar Alexander II sent his fleets to New York and San Francisco and declared that an attack on Lincoln would be an attack on Russia.

Meanwhile Lincoln created "greenback" dollars to finance the war and escape indebtedness to the foreign financiers. "They understood at once that the United States would escape their grip," Bismarck said." The death of Lincoln was resolved upon. Nothing is easier than to find a fanatic to strike." (180)

Compare this with Howard Zinn who although a "socialist," makes no mention of European financiers. His book is a soap opera of the oppression of the poor by the rich. He depicts the Civil War as a clash of capitalist "elites."

"The Northern elite wanted economic expansion.... The slave interests opposed all that. " (189) Again, "The American government had set out to ... retain the enormous national territory and market and resources. " (198)

In other words "capitalism" in general and not the Rothschild Illuminati caused this heinous war that cost 500,000 soldiers' lives and eight billion dollars. Is it any wonder these bankers, who are the real establishment, love the Left? Is it any wonder they populate our universities with pious Marxists (and feminists) who never question why they are pulling down big salaries if they are really defying the establishment?

Another Pied Piper is Noam Chomsky who attributes all evil to capitalism and American imperialism. As far as I know, he never mentions the Rothschilds, the llluminati, the Council on Foreign Relations or the New World Order. He pretends that Oklahoma City and 9-11 were NOT inside jobs.

"We shall erase from the memories of men all facts of previous centuries which are undesirable to us," say the "Protocols of the Elders of Zion." "And leave only those which depict all the errors of the government of the goyim." (Protocol 16)

The problem is not American capitalism but the control of the nation's credit by a small private international cartel which has used this advantage to build a monopoly in every key industry. This international group is behind western imperialism and every war. Its totalitarian occult agenda (a.k.a, globalism, feminism, diversity) is now corporate policy.

The big government vs big business paradigm diverts attention from the Illuminati bankers who run both. It places the blame on capitalism and the US, which has been under Illuminati control for at least a century. It teaches each new generation to be alienated from their country, culture and economic system, and to become dysfunctional and impotent.

The bankers love socialism and Big Government. They have a monopoly of money and need a monopoly of power (i.e. government.) Together, these Rothschild banker monopolies are the essence of Communism. Rothschild pawns (liberals, socialists etc.) are elected by bribing the people with social services and jobs which create debt (and profit.)

The bankers need to institute a global police state (New World Order) to ensure that no nation challenges their credit monopoly or defaults on their "debt."

ANTISEMITISM

Antisemitism is another tactic to divert attention from the Rothschild's plan for world tyranny.

Cherep-Spiritovitch concludes:

"According to Bismarck the awful Civil War in America was fomented by a Jewish Conspiracy, and Abraham Lincoln the hero and national saint of the United States was killed by the same Hidden Hand which killed six Romanov Czars, ten kings and scores of Ministers only to easier bleed their nations." (181)

He is not talking about Jews in general but only those who advance the Rothschild Illuminati agenda. His book makes an appeal to righteous Jews, and recognizes that many non-Jews have sold out.

"The Jews should bring to bay the 'Satanists' who corrupt the countries in which they have found asylum," the Preface says: " the Gentiles should render every Judas who accepts the bribes of the Jews." [listen up Hagee Ministries!]

Bankers and their agents (B'nai Brith etc.) deflect this challenge by conflating the Rothschilds with all Jews. Thus they transform a political cultural and economic issue into a racial one that can be dismissed as 'prejudice.'

Why do so many Jews think they are responsible for the Rothschilds and the Illuminati? It looks suspicious.

The bankers' Satanic Conspiracy is the source of antisemitism. The sooner more Jews oppose it; the sooner antisemitism will disappear.

British diplomat convicted of being rude to Israel - Its illegal to object in the UK to the killing of innocent women and children

British diplomat Rowan Laxton is convicted of 'racial harassment' over his use of strong language in protest at Israel's offensive against the Gaza Strip at the turn of the year.

Laxton reportedly used "offensive language against Israel and Jews" after watching a report about the Gaza war on television, while exercising in a gym on January 27.

The now suspended head of the South Asia desk of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) also said that all Israeli soldiers "should be wiped off the map."

Upon a complaint made by two gym-users to the police, the diplomat was arrested on charges of 'inciting religious hatred' but released on bail until next month.

On Thursday, City of Westminster Magistrates' Court convicted the 48-year-old Laxton of 'aggravated racial harassment' and required him to pay a fine worth 350 pounds.

"A member of FCO staff was convicted... of a public order offence. The FCO takes very seriously any suggestion of inappropriate behavior by its staff," said an FCO spokeswoman.

She said the case would be considered under the FCO's misconduct procedure, but refused to elaborate further.

Laxton, who has already been suspended from his job, could now be sacked. He was also ordered to pay 500 pounds in prosecution costs, but was not ordered to pay compensation.

World Most Expensive Lamb Sheep set Record

A sheep named Deveronvale Perfection, is believed to have become the world most expensive after selling for £231,000. Deveronvale Perfection which is bred in Banffshire, Scotland, was bought by a fellow local sheep farmer at a sale in Lanark.

This 8 month old lamb of Graham Morrison will be used for breeding in the hope of more than recouping the purchase price. It is Jimmy Douglas, the brave guy. Deveronvale Perfectionhigh price has been put down to the lamb’s strong physical attributes.

The previous UK’s most expensive sheep, Tophill Joe, was bought for £128,000 six years ago. He died recently after fathering lambs worth more than £1m.

Seller Mr Morrison said the price was beyond his "wildest dreams". However, he said the sheep lived up to his name and was indeed "perfection".

New owner, Mr Douglas said the Texel sheep was as good as he had seen, with a “great body and strong loin”. He said “Deveronvale Perfection was the best lamb he had ever seen, with great strength and an incredibly chunky stature".

It comes down to genetics," said British Texel Sheep Society Chief Executive, John Yates, on the society’s website. Breeders are looking at the decades of sheep that this blood line can produce."

The price achieved at the Scottish National Texel Sale at Lanark market on Thursday surprised onlookers, "but when breeders see the ‘Perfect’ Ram, they will stop at nothing," Yates said.

World Largest Bottle of Whisky set Guinness World Record

A TINY Scotch whisky distillery has made the Guinness Book of Records after producing the world’s largest bottle of whisky.

The massive bottle of single malt was filled by hand with105 litres of 14-year-old Tomintoul Speyside Glenlivet Scotch.

And when full, the giant five foot container holds the equivalent of 150 standard bottles.

The monster whisky bottle, which will be on permanent display at the Clockhouse in the village square at Tomintoul village, was the brainchild of the Tomintoul distillery and a local whisky shop.

And after filling the gigantic bottle, the huge cork had to hammered into place with a massive mallet.

Duncan Baldwin, Tomintoul Distillery’s brand development director, said: “We are delighted to have been successful in achieving this record as ratified by Guinness Book of World Records.

“It was quite nerve-racking, filling and labelling such a large vessel by hand and especially so when sealing the bottle with the largest cork I have ever seen as it had to be hammered in with a mallet but the exercise went very well.

“It should be a great talking point for Tomintoul Distillery, the village and its visitors.”

World's New Tallest Man 2009 in London Looking for Love

The world's new tallest man, measuring two meters 46.5 centimeters (eight feet one inch), said he was looking for love as he was presented by Guinness World Records in London on Wednesday.

Sultan Kosen, 26, blotted out the iconic Tower Bridge as he posed for photographs on the banks of the River Thames in his first ever trip outside his native Turkey.

He takes over the title from China's Bao Xishun, who stands 'just' 2.36 meters (seven feet 8.95 inches).

The Turk also has the world's largest hands and largest feet, measuring 27.5 centimeters (10.8 inches) and 36.5 centimeters (14.4 inches) respectively.

And his giant hands dwarfed those proffered by amazed wellwishers as he turned heads in London, while reporters strained to get their microphones within reach of his head.

Kosen was unable to complete his schooling because of his extreme height, but works occasionally as a farmer to support his family.

He said he hoped his newfound celebrity status would enable him "to travel and see the world and have a car that accommodates my size."

"My biggest dream though, is to get married and have children -- I'm looking for love," he said.

The extreme difficulty of squeezing into a regular-sized car is one of the main disadvantages of his height, but he says it comes in handy for replacing light bulbs and hanging curtains for his mother.

Kosen has three brothers and a sister, who are all normal-sized, but his rate of growth surged from the age of 10 because of a tumour which caused too much growth hormone to be released from his pituitary gland.

The tumour was successfully removed in surgery and he finally stopped growing last year. He uses walking sticks and tires quickly if he is standing.

Another pretender to the tallest title, Ukrainian Leonid Stadnyk, who claims to be 10.5 centimeters taller than Kosen, fails to qualify for the record because he refused to be measured by Guinness World Records officials.

Guinness editor-in-chief Craig Glenday travelled to Turkey to personally validate Kosen's height under strict guidelines, measuring him three times in one day because bodies expand and shrink throughout the day.

Glenday said: "Sultan's an imposing figure, but a gentle, quiet man who's totally relaxed and unfazed about his unique standing in the world."

World Biggest Burger in London set Guinness Record

A host of record breakers including the world's tallest man and the biggest burger ever sold have been unveiled at an event in London.
The burger weighs in at more than 13st and sells for 499 dollars (£302) at Mallie's Sports Grill and Bar in Southgate, Michigan, US, according to the Guinness World Records (GWR).

Restaurant owner Steve Mallie said it took eight hours to bake the bun big enough to hold the 185lb (84kg) burger.
He said: "Being in the Guinness World Records book is the greatest accomplishment we've ever done. I've worked my entire life to build this restaurant and being able to have the notoriety of Guinness makes it just that bit more rewarding."
The burger is baked for 15 hours before it is topped with cheese, lettuce and tomato and wheeled out into the restaurant on a trolley.

Other records include the new holder of the world's tallest man title. Sultan Kosen, 27, is 8ft 1in (246.5cm). Speaking to journalists, he said he hoped his new-found fame would bring him love for the first time.

Turkish Mr Kosen, who also has the largest hands (27.5cm) and feet (36.5cm) on the globe, said his size had put women off and he had never even had a girlfriend. He said: "The first thing I want to do is have a car that I can fit in but more than that I want to get married. Up until now it's been really difficult to find a girlfriend. I've never had one, they were usually scared of me. I'm hoping now I will find one."

One the difficulties of being so tall is getting clothes which fit - Mr Kosen wore a specially-made suit to meet journalists which was one of the first outfits he has owned that is the right size. He also had to have a three-metre long bed made. But his towering height does have its upsides. He said: "The good thing about being so tall is that I can see people from a long distance. The other thing is at home they use my height to change the light bulbs and hang the curtains, things like that."

A smiling Mr Kosen, who used crutches to stand, said he had always dreamed of coming to London and had two seats to himself on the flight over.

World Heaviest Gooseberry Guinness Record set by Bryan Nellist

THE ancient tradition of competitive gooseberry growing has been rocked by one of the biggest battles in its 300-year history.

A 73-year-old amateur gardener from Whitby is attempting to wrench the world title for the planet’s biggest gooseberry from a professional grower in Cheshire.

But a breakaway system of berry measuring in Yorkshire could scupper the bid.

Mathematicians have verified that Bryan Nellist, of Egton Bridge, has smashed the 16-year-old Guinness World Record held by Kelvin Archer.

But he has been left stewing over official recognition because the equipment used to weigh his supersized berry has yet to be ratified by Guinness World Records.

Mr Nellist said: “It seems it is going to take some time.”

The two title contenders were weighed using different methods, leading to questions over whether Bryan’s gigantic goosegog was actually heavier than the one which had held the world record since 1993.

North West gooseberry growers record weight in pennyweights and grains, with a pennyweight equalling 1.55g. But Yorkshiregrowers changed to a system of drams and grains, with a dram equalling 1.77g.

A complex calculation shows Bryan’s 34 dram, 28 grain Woodpecker whopper beat Kelvin’s best effort, a Montrose berry, by less than three grains.

Mr Archer, head gardener at Cheshire Garden of Distinction Rode Hall and one of the most respected gardeners in the country, said: “They have had to get the mathematicians out to compare to two ways of measuring the weight of gooseberries, but if the officials and the mathematicians say Bryan’s is heavier, then good luck to him and congratulations.

“Getting it verified by Guinness World Records, however, is another matter, as I know from personal experience.”

Gooseberries have become a tourist attraction at 18th century Rode Hall, where Mr Archer uses a combination of the rich Cheshire soil together with a few secret ingredients

Three skydivers - two British and one Indian - plunged through the shadow of Everest on Tuesday to land at the world's highest drop zone.

The daredevil adventurers jumped from an altitude of 6,154 metres (20,000 feet) early Tuesday morning and landed at Gorak Shep, a sandy plateau 5,165 metres above sea level.
"It was not just Everest. I could see the whole panorama of fantastic mountains and it was just amazing," said Leo Dickinson.

"You have got the mountains rushing past you. I just didn't want it to end," the 62-year-old, who has made over 3,500 skydives, told AFP after returning to Kathmandu.

"I had a freefall for four seconds and in the next three minutes I was already landing," said Dickinson, a British documentary filmmaker who was also the first person to fly over Everest in a balloon, in 1991.

Dickinson said he would begin the process to register the feat after getting back home.

"I have never heard anyone landing at that height so far. I will claim for world's highest parachute jump landing with Guinness World Records," he said.

Nepal started offering skydive trips in front of the 8,848-metre (29,028-foot) Everest last year. The landing point at that time was Shyangboche -- a small airstrip at 3,742 metres in the foothills.

"I haven't done anything like this before. It was just stunning," said 24-year-old Ralph Mitchell, a skydive instructor.
The skydivers said they faced sub-zero temperatures and fast-changing weather when they jumped.

"It was thrilling and exhilarating to be so close to Everest," said Ramesh Chandra Tripathi, 45, who is a parajump instructor for the Indian Air Force.

"It offers a totally different challenge in terms of high winds and freezing temperatures," said Tripathi, who climbed Everest in 2005.

"The wind was drifting me away. The chances of falling into crevasses or hitting the ridges and glaciers was high but it is worth fighting against the odds of nature," he said.

Britain Leaves Asylum Seekers To Starve, Shows No Sympathy

Britain has no sympathy for asylum seekers as thousands of them spend years living in abject poverty on the streets of the English country after fleeing persecution in their own countries, an independent asylum inquiry has heard.

Senior lawyers, doctors and immigration officials told a former High Court judge and the Independent Asylum Commission chairman Sir John Waite that asylum seekers have no access to help from the state as they have not been granted asylum, yet they prefer to stay in Britain rather than return home because of the fear of being tortured or killed.

They claimed before the inquiry, which will report to the government next year, that such destitution is being used by the British Government as a policy in an attempt to force desperate people out of the country.

At least 280,000 people are living in poverty in Britain after having their leave to remain refused. Some of them are appealing those decisions. Some just go completely underground, taking their chances on the streets of the UK with no money or shelter, the Independent reported.

Only a few have access to the health care that UN legislation said they have a right to.

Sir John Waite said, ''I think it's a serious omission that we haven't looked earlier at this very pressing problem.

There is a significant element of the population subsisting while awaiting hearings or asylum claims, especially after rejection. And some of them are suffering serious hardship either because they don't understand the system or because the system fails them.'' The Commission met last week in Manchester to hear evidence from immigration experts as well as direct testimonies from those who had experienced the struggle of surviving in the UK first-hand.

Financial support is cut off after 21 days for those without children whose asylum case has been rejected. Immigration experts have called this a ''deliberate tool'' to rush people out of the country, often before enough evidence has been collated to ensure the safety of their return.

Chief Executive of Refugee Action Sandy Buchan condemned the country's treatment of failed asylum seekers.

''It seems the Government is using destitution as an instrument of policy. It's very much a deliberate tool of government. It's morally unacceptable to force people into utter destitution, and the most desperate and degrading circumstances when people are frightened of what awaits them when they return home,'' he said, adding that destitution is an unworkable policy that has completely failed to deliver on its objectives.
