Are You Cold, Mother?

On a heavy snowy day in winter, two men walked along a valley. After trudging for one whole day, they came to a grave.

The grave was covered with thick snow. The tombstone looked very simple. The older man said to the young man, “This is your mother’s grave…” The young man knelt down in the snow.

This story took place 20 years ago. At that time the most intense fighting had occurred here. In order from losing the war all the soldiers had reinforced. Among these was a soldier called Wilson .

The strong offense of the enemy had made the forces retreat ., Wilson had headed forwarded in the snow with the troops in front of him. At this moment, he suddenly heard a baby’s cry, which came from a hole in the snow. Wilson dug into the snow, and was immediately shocked by what he had seen.

In a mother’s arms, the infant was crying aloud. What was even more shocking was the mother was naked. It turned out that when the mother carried her baby to take refuge . They were trapped in this valley by the heavy snow. In order to save her baby, the mother had wrapped all her clothes around the child whilst holding him tightly in her arms. Though the mother had been dead, the baby in her arms had survived.

Wilson was deeply moved by such an unexpected scene. He buried the mother and held the crying baby to pursue the troops.

After the war, he adopted this child and took him to the United States to bring up. When the child grew up, Wilson told him what happened that year and took him to the valley to look for his mother.

Kneeling at the grave, the young man burst into tears.

After a while, the young man started to clean the snow on the grave. After cleaning the snow around, he undressed his clothes, covered the grave, threw himself on the grave and spoke out the words concealed in his heart for long, “Mom, how cold you were for so many years!”

Most Number of Child Birth inside Mobile Vans set World Record

Claiming its mobile emergency health service a success, Uttarakhand government is planning to seek the state's entry into the 'Guinness Book of World Records' for having provided facilities for the birth of 784 children in moving vans during 16 months time.

"Birth of children inside mobile vans in such a large number is a world record and the state would soon send its claim to the Guinness Book of World Records in this regard," said Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank.

"With the help of these vans, a total of 28905 women were admitted to the hospitals where they delivered babies during the period," said Nishank, who also holds the health ministry.

Considering the geographical conditions of the hill state where people especially women generally do not get appropriate and timely medical help, the 108 emergency mobile health services have proved very useful, Nishank said.

The service was launched by the state government in collaboration with Hyderabad based Emergency Medical and Research Institute, a private company, in 2008 to provide medical facilities in remote areas.

The Chief Minister said the response time of this service is very less and the mobile vans reach the needy persons in 8-10 minutes.

So far the 108 services have received 25,42,135 calls and of these 30,09902 were emergency ones. Besides, 90,890 people were also provided emergency facilities through the service, he added.

Worlds Heaviest Baby Born by Indonesian Woman

Worlds Heaviest Baby Born by Indonesian Woman

An Indonesian woman has given birth to the heaviest baby ever born in the country, a boy weighing in at an eye-watering 19lbs. We take a look at some of the other extreme sizes and shapes the human body can reach.

Heaviest baby ever

Sadly, the heaviest baby ever born, in January 1979 in Ohio, USA, died after just 11 hours. The boy weighed 23lb 12oz. His Canadian mother, Anna Bates, was herself was an unusual woman at 7ft 5in tall.

The heaviest surviving newborn seems to have been a 22lb 8oz boy born to one Carmelina Fedele in Aversa, Italy, in September 1955.

World's Lightest baby ever
Of course, babies are often born prematurely, and before a certain point they are unlikely to survive. But the lightest baby to have survived was Amillia Taylor, who weighed just 10oz – less than a thirtieth of the weight of the Indonesian newborn.
Amillia was born after just 21 weeks and six days in the womb in February 2007 in Miami, Florida, to parents Sonja and William.

World's Heaviest man ever
Jon Brower Minnoch, of Bainbridge Island, Washington, is believed to have been the heaviest man ever to have lived, weighing an estimated 1,400lb or 100 stone – well over half a ton. This is only an approximation as his size meant it was impossible to get him on a scale.
Married with two children, he was also the holder of two other records: greatest weight loss (924lb – almost two-thirds of his body weight); and greatest difference in weight in a married couple, with his wife Jeanette. Jeanette weighed just 110lb (eight stone) – less than 1/12th the weight of her husband. Mr Minnoch died in 1983, aged 42.
The heaviest living man was believed to be Manuel Uribe of Mexico, until he lost more than half his bodyweight following gastric bypass surgery.

World's Heaviest woman ever
Carol Yager of Beecher, Michigan, was the heaviest woman ever to have lived, peaking at 545kg (1,200lb, or 85.8 stone). She also achieved the greatest non-surgical weight loss, losing 520lb in three months. She died in 2006, aged 34.
World's Tallest man ever
Robert Wadlow of Alton, Illinois, measured 8ft 11in at his death aged 22. A pituitary gland problem had given him unusually high levels of human growth hormone, and he was still growing when he died from an infection caused by a faulty leg brace, which he required to walk.
He was known as the “Alton Giant”, and is buried in a half-ton coffin.

World's Tallest living man
Sultan Kosen, of Mardin, Turkey, born in 1983, is the world’s tallest living man according to Guinness World Records. He is 8ft 1in tall. He also has the world’s largest hands.

World's Tallest woman ever
Trijntje Keever, of Edam in the Netherlands, was 8ft 4in tall at her death aged 17 in 1633. She was 6ft 7 at the age of nine and was visited by Frederick V, King of Bohemia, who was curious about the “nine-year-old girl taller than every man in Europe.”
World's Tallest living woman
Believed to be Yao Defen of Anhui Province, China, although the Guinness Book of World Records has not confirmed this. She is 37 years old, and said to be 7ft 8in tall.

World's Shortest man ever
Gul Mohammed, of New Delhi, is the shortest adult human being ever, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. He stood just 1ft 10in. He died, aged 40, of respiratory problems brought on by heavy smoking.

World's Lightest woman ever
Lucia Zarate, of San Carlos, Mexico, is said by the Guinness Book of Records to have been the lightest woman ever, at just 4.7lb, and one of the shortest at 21.5 inches tall. Her calf was barely thicker than the average adult male’s thumb.
She died of hypothermia when her circus train became stranded in snow in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in 1890.

World's Oldest Mother Gives Birth to Twins at 70

She was utterly determined to have a son.The fact that to do so would make 70-year-old Omkari Panwar the world's oldest mother didn't even cross her mind. Her resolve was matched by her husband Charan Singh Panwar, 77.

Grandmother Omkari Panwar has given birth to twins at the age of 70.

Proud parents: Omkari Panwar, 70, with her husband Charan, 77

Omraki Panwar recovers in hospital after delivering her twin via Caesarean section

The world's oldest mum, who gave birth to twins at 70 after IVF, proudly showed off her son, then admitted: 'Now I've got another daughter to feed too.'Omkari Panwar, and her husband Charan Singh Panwar, 77, underwent IVF all for the sake of producing a male heir to take over the family's smallholdings. The elderly Indian couple, who already have two daughters in their thirties, and five grandchildren, are near destitute after mortgaging their land, selling their buffalo and taking out a loan for the £4,400 fertility treatment.

Omkari and her twins (a boy with white hat and a girl) on the day after they were discharged from hospitalNow the pensioner parents will rely on family handouts and the charity of fellow villagers to bring up the little boy they so wanted, and the little girl they didn't.But the Panwars, who live in a tiny community in Uttar Pradesh, North India, were delighted to finally see and hold their two babies, now weighing a healthy 4lbs, six weeks after they were born on June 27.'We have not been able to see or hold them all this time," said frail Omkari. "They had to stay in the hospital because they were so small.'We could not afford to stay there, so we had to leave them.' And she added: 'We paid all this money to the doctors for a son, but now we have the extra burden of another daughter as well.' Boys are cherished in India because daughters are not allowed to inherit property but leave to marry and become part of their new husband's family. The twins were born at 34 weeks by emergency caesarian section at a hospital in the nearest town of Muzaffarnagar. They weighed just 2lbs each and had to be rushed to the Jaswant Roy Speciality Hospital which has a neonatal intensive care unit.

The twins were born at 34 weeks by caesarian section and weighed just 2lb eachOmkari, who saw her babies just once, a week after their birth, said: 'I could only just touch them lightly with my fingers.'They were so tiny, they would have fit into the palm of my hand.' The Panwars had to scrape together a further £500 to pay for part of their children's medical care and are now almost penniless.Their little boy is now likely to take over a tiny piece of land with a large mortgage still to pay on it.But Charan insists the cost was worthwhile, after he became a laughing stock in his village because he had no son to carry on the family name.'I've finally got what I wanted and I can die a happy man now,' said Charan.'My wife will look after the babies when I am gone, and after she dies my other daughters will care for them.'It will be an honour for them to raise their new brother.'Now my daughters will have a family home to return to on religious days and special occasions.' It is tradition for sons to remain in the parental home with their wives. On festival days the daughters of the family come to visit with their own husbands and children.Villagers welcomed the jubilant pair back to the village, which lies 20km from Muzaffarnagar, with numerous gifts for the new babies. The twins will be named at a special Hindu ceremony next week when the whole community will celebrate their arrival into the world.'It is customary to name the babies after two weeks," said Omkari, who does not have a birth certificate, but insists she is 70-years-old.'We have not seen the babies all this time, so we haven't been able to hold the naming ceremony.'Now, we can arrange one, but cannot reveal their names until that day.' Omkari suffered a personal heartbreak more than 40 years ago as a much younger woman, when she miscarried a baby boy.'For more than 40 years I have thought God did not think I was fit to produce a boy,' she said. 'But fate works in funny ways. It must have been meant to be that I waited all this time.' The couple do not even understand the fertility procedures carried out to allow Omkari to give birth so long after going through the menopause. It is likely donor eggs were used to allow her to carry a child, but the Panwars simply do not know what happened when they went to a fertility clinic in Meerut last year.Omkari, who remembers being nine when India gained independence in 1947, said: 'We saw a doctor at the Baby Shastri Nursing Home and I was given treatment.'Later we were told I was carrying twins, a boy and a girl.' Screening embryos to discover the sex of the baby is illegal in India, following the outlawing of female foeticide - the aborting of girls - more than 10 years ago.The couple do not even know such medical techniques exist and they do not think anything was specifically done to ensure they would have a boy.'We just count ourselves blessed that we have a boy. We prayed for it to happen,' said Charan.'We don't know how. We're just glad the doctor was right, and we do have a son.' The world's previous oldest mothers were Romanian Adriana Iliescu, who gave birth to a daughter, aged 66 and 320 days in May 2005, and Spanish woman Carmela Bousada, who was 66 and 358 days old when her twins were born in December 2006.Omkari does not care that she has broken the world record and said: 'If I am the world's oldest mother it means nothing to me.'I just want to be with my new babies and care for them while I am still able.'

Asthma Can Be Dangerous For Pregnant Ladies

A baby to be born brings lots of happiness in anybody’s life. Everyone is really very excited for the new one to come into this world. It completely changes one’s life especially the parents of the child. But life is not so simple and easy. There may be certain complications. One of the complications may be caused due to the asthma. Any pregnant lady suffering from a chronic disease like asthma should be really very careful while one is pregnant. Asthma can be caused by certain allergens present in the atmosphere thus a pregnant lady should be very careful of these allergens. These allergens may be pollen grains or hairs of pets like dogs and cats.

Asthma may be a hereditary disease also. If a pregnant women is suffering from asthma then may be the child also suffers from the same leading to complications and making it difficult for the child who is yet to be born. A chronic disease like Asthma shows variations and fluctuations ion pregnancy due to hormonal changes in ladies while they are pregnant. Around one third of the women show a positive drift and get treated of asthma to a great extent whereas around one third show much more degradation as compared to the earlier condition. The infants of such women suffer a lot and there may be a lot of complications in delivery.

The major concern of this disease asthma during pregnancy is the asthmatic attack that one may encounter thus leading to the deficiency of oxygen inside the lungs of the mother. The baby does not take the direct supply of oxygen from the air. It depends on the mother for oxygen. During the attack the oxygen supply is reduced to a great extent inside the lungs of the mother thus making it difficult for the baby to breathe thus leading to a number of complications. It is thus advisable for the mother to take proper medication and even preventive measures to prevent such asthmatic attacks.

One may follow certain steps so as to try & prevent asthmatic attacks during pregnancy. Thus pregnant ladies should stay away from the crowds. Certain other factors like the smoke from the cigarette, be it first hand or may be second hand may trigger the asthmatic attack; therefore one should stay away from smokers and even should not smoke.

Get Your Baby To Sleep: 4 Steps

You thought pulling all-nighters to finish term papers was hard. Imagine goingdays without sleep, enduring a high-pitched wail that cuts to the bone and strangles every nerve in your body. That's the harsh reality of the first few months of fatherhood. Most newborns are understandably distraught. The world is an alien place to them, blasted with light and awash with new sounds. And if that wasn't enough, their digestive tracts are still trying to figure things out and their tummies are painfully bloated with gas that can't easily escape. Oh, and they just so happen to be nocturnal for the first few weeks; during pregnancy, babies are lulled to sleep by mommy's movements during the day. When they're born, they're still on the night shift.

It all adds up to some tough nights. But they don't have to be disastrous for your sleep. There are a few simple tricks to get your baby to sleep that can work wonders; tricks that calm a seemingly hysterical baby. You and your partner will sleep more and you'll look like Super Dad. Plus, you'll bond with your baby, which can lead to a lifetime of happy parenting.

After your baby is fed, bathed and ready for bed, following these simple steps will almost always help you get your baby to sleep.

STEP 1

Burp your baby

Gas is a major midnight disruptor. To a little baby, it's excruciating and confusing. It’s understandable that when baby has gas, he’s exceedingly upset. You can score some major points with your partner if you take over the calming duties for a night or two. And that means getting rid of the gas.

So, you think you know how to burp a baby, huh? Pat them on the back, right? Nope. The back pat can work, but there are better ways to burp your baby without pounding on them like conga drums.

The bounce: Hold your baby close and bounce on the balls of your feet. Gently rub your baby's back, up and down his spine. Baby will automatically straighten his posture, which gives gas a clear shot from tummy to mouth. This technique works wonders for clearing gas and ultimately will help you get your baby to sleep.

The clock: Proceed carefully. Sometime gas can get trapped above the opening of the esophagus, in the bubble of the stomach. The best way to free it is to gently sway your baby like the pendulum of a grandfather clock. Firmly, but gently, grasp baby around the ribs, just under the arms. Keeping him close, sway him from side to side. Imagine the baby is on a pendulum and his feet are at the end. This side-to-side motion will allow the gas to slide over and up the esophagus, and out of your baby's mouth with a satisfying burp.

STEP 2

Baby burrito

Newborns like to feel secure; they miss the warm embrace of the womb. That's why ingenious moms invented the swaddle (it's not a great American invention, but damn we should have thought of it), a method of wrapping a baby up tight in a blanket. It gives baby a sense of security and calm which, again, will help you get your baby to sleep. But simply wrapping your baby up in a blanket won't do. You need a special technique that will keep him snug. (Newborns are so new that they can be spooked by their own flailing limbs, so swaddles need to be secure.) To make a secure swaddle, place the blanket on the bed at a diagonal, making a diamond. Fold the top corner straight down. Place your baby on the blanket with his neck lined up with the top of the fold you just made. Wrap the top left part of the blanket over baby's right shoulder and arm. Now take the bottom corner of the blanket and bring it up your baby's chest. Finally, wrap your baby's left arm and shoulder up with the right corner of the blanket and tuck it in beneath his right side. Bon appetite! Kidding, but this should definitely help you get your baby to sleep.

STEP 3

Sideways soothing

This is a trick that famous baby whisperer Dr. Harvey Karp teaches in his fantastic book and video The Happiest Baby on the Block. If, after swaddling, your baby is still inconsolable, move your baby to his side. Karp says this induces the calming reflex, and it really works -- especially for newborns. Gently turn your baby on his side and stay close. Crying usually ceases in a matter of minutes. If it doesn't, follow the next step.

STEP 4

The sound of music

Newborns don't like quiet. They've spent nine months in a pretty noisy place; a place full of whooshing white noise, of blood pumping through mommy's veins, of amniotic fluid sloshing around, and of the muffled sound of voices and music. When things get quiet in your bedroom at night, it's scary and alien. If, after swaddling and sideways soothing, your baby is still upset, try shushing in his ear. Not too loudly, but remember, baby needs to hear the "shhhhhhhh" white noise over his own screams. Later on you can tune a clock radio to static and play that near the bed or crib to sooth baby.

Finally, if all else fails, give baby something to suck on. This doesn't always have to be a pacifier or mommy's nipple (or your man boobs if you have them -- and if you're doing that, you should know that's just wrong); a newborn will happily suck on your finger or thumb for comfort. But beware: A newborn can create deep-space levels of vacuum that can really hurt your fingers.
